Learn the strategies and design points to design a highly available virtualized environment. The setup includes dual VIO servers with shared ethernet adapter failover and storage redundancy for High Availability Cluster Multiprocessing Local Partioning nodes that are on separate managed systems. These concepts are extended to separate the two HACMP LPAR nodes into separate “geographic sites”. Implement data replication using GLVM, integrated with HACMP/XD to provide availability between the “sites”.

This is an expert course for systems integrators, architects or administrators who will be implementing, designing or administering HACMP nodes that are separated by a distance where HACMP/XD will be used in a virtualized environment.

You should have completed:

HACMP System Administration I: Planning and Implementation (AU540) or (Q1554)
System p LPAR and Virtualization I: Planning and Configuration (AU730) or (Q1373
or have equivalent experience
System p LPAR and Virtualization II: Implementing Advanced Configurations (AU78) is recommended, but not required.

At the completion of this course, you should be able to:

Design and implement a virtualized System p5 environment that is used in an HACMP and HACMP/XD configuration, that includes the failure/recovery of the virtualized components outside of the control of HACMP
Plan for data replication over a distance, considering replication method (software vs. hardware), bandwidth requirements, latency, and time-to-write
Describe GLVM, Metro Mirror and HACMP/XD concepts and processing
Plan for and implement HACMP/XD with GLVM and Metro Mirror
Perform on-going maintenance of the HACMP/XD cluster
