Administrators of DB2 UDB for z/OS can acquire a view of the architecture and fundamental processes required to manage a DB2 UDB for z/OS subsystem. Engage in lectures and hands-on labs to gain experience to: understand how DB2 sets and use Integrated Catalog Facility (ICF) catalog names, the use of DSN command processor running in batch and foreground, use views to minimize users' ability to see into the DB2 catalog, see how the catalog (through grant activity) controls access to data, search the catalog for problem situations, use the catalog and DB2 utilities to determine data recovery requirements, describe Internal Resource Lock Manager (IRLM) in a DB2 UDB environment, implement DB2 and Resource Access Control Facility (RACF) security, understand DB2 program flow for all environments, display normal and problem threads and database status, understand effects of starting and stopping DB2, see how the SQL Processor Using File Input (SPUFI) AUTOCOMMIT option defers the COMMIT/ROLLBACK decision, interpret lock displays, identify and cancel particular threads, describe available DB2 utilities to manage system and user page sets.

This is an intermediate course for system administrators, database administrators, and other technical individuals, who manage and implement DB2 UDB for z/OS Version 8.
 
prerequisites
  
 
You should understand the objects (tables, indexes, and databases) used in DB2 systems and how those objects are created, managed, and recovered.

You should complete / have eperience in:

DB2 UDB for z/OS and OS/390 V7 Database Administration Workshop - Part 1 (CF830) or
DB2 UDB for z/OS V8 Database Administration Workshop - Part 1 (CF831)
or have equivalent experience
DB2 SQL Workshop (CF120)
or have working knowledge of SQL
at least one year as a z/OS systems programmer or equivalent experience
or one year working with DB2 on the mainframe as a Database Administrator (DBA) on the mainframe or equivalent experience

Give and overview of DB2 UDB for z/OS architecture and fundamental processes
Use system resources to discover the ICF catalog DB2 uses
Use DB2 catalog information to discover what image copies exist for a given page set
Select appropriate utilities to administer the DB2 UDB subsystem
Interpret output from the PRINT LOG MAP utility
Use the REPORT utility to establish data recovery requirements
Select appropriate DB2 utility to manage DB2 subsystem
Use –DISPLAY command to find information about normal and problem threads and databases
Describe the effect of stopping a database or page set
Describe the impact of the SPUFI AUTOCOMMIT
Interpret output of –DISPLAY DB LOCKS
Identify and cancel particular threads
Design various SQL queries and other techniques to uncover potential system or application problems
