Acquire the skills you need to produce application programs in Java that manipulate DB2 UDB for z/OS and OS/390 databases. Also, learn how to take advantage of advanced programming techniques to access DB2 UDB for z/OS and OS/390 database servers in the workstation environment.

Emphasize using the Java Database Connectivity (JDBC) to connect DB2 from a Java program and embedding static SQL statements using SQL for Java (SQLJ). Also, learn how to write Java stored procedures from a remote station using the Development Center tool.

Application programmers and other technical individuals, who design and implement Java applications that access DB2 data from the Web and through WebSphere in an S/390 system server environment.

You should complete:

DB2 Family Fundamentals (CF030)
DB2 SQL Workshop (CF120)
Introduction to Developing OO Applications with Java for Procedural Developers (JA321)
Developing and Testing OO Applications with Java (JA341)
AND be able to discuss relational database concepts and use basic Java language syntax components. The labs provide Java skeleton programs for you to complete.

Identify the Java capabilities in such environments with regard to concepts such as portability and reusability
Use Java and DB2 for z/OS and OS/390 system servers
Identify a client/server context and the use of applets and servlets
Identify the use of stored procedures in the server side
Build a stored procedure using the Development Center tool
Program a Java application, a Java applet or a Java servlets using JDBC or SQLJ to connect DB2
Describe the object-relational extension, such as User-defined Distinct Types (UDT) or User-Defined Functions (UDF), and relate them to object-oriented concepts.
