Become familiar with the components of DB2 Data Warehouse Edition. Focus on the SQL Warehouse Tool, DB2 Intelligent Miner, Cube Views, and their common interface, the Design Studio. Examine components such as DB2 Alphablox and the Database Partitioning Feature at a higher level. This is due to the fact that there are existing courses that cover those components in great detail. In the exercises focus on the SQL Warehousing Tool, DB2 Intelligent Miner, and Cube Views. However, there is a DB2 Alphablox exercise, and DB2 Alphablox is used to access DB2 data based on Cube Views metadata.

who can benefit

This is an intermediate course for individuals who administer one or more of the components that come with DB2 Data Warehouse Edition.

prerequisites

You should have Database Administrator (DBA) experience, regular use of DB2 UDB, and Microsoft Windows experience.

skills gained

Describe the components of DB2 Data Warehouse Edition
Define a DB2 Alphablox cube based upon Cube Views metadata
Use the Design Studio to physically model tables that are used as sources and targets for the SQL Warehouse Tool.
Use the Design Studio to create Data Flows in order to move data within DB2
Combine Data Flows into Control Flows and deploy the Control Flows into the SQL Warehouse Tool runtime environment
Describe the different data mining algorithms supported by DB2 Intelligent Miner
Create Mining Flows that create data mining models and score those models against new data
Use DB2 Intelligent Miner Visualizers to view data mining results
Create Mining Flows that use DB2 Intelligent Miner Modeling
Create Mining Flows that invoke DB2 Intelligent Miner Scoring to score DB2 data using previously created data mining models
Describe how Cube Views can be used as an Online Analytical Processing (OLAP) metadata store
Create Data Flows that will populate a star schema and then define OLAP metadata that describes that star schema to Cube Views
Use Cube Views to create Materialized Query Tables (MQT) to enhance some OLAP tools' performance

course materials

The course materials cover DB2 Data Warehouse Edition V9.1.

hands-on labs

Twelve labs are included to address functionality of Data Warehouse Edition components.

training path
