The Sun Fire High-End Server (HES) Administration course provides students with the skill set necessary to identify the features and architecture specifics of the Sun Fire 15K/12K and Sun Fire E25K/E20K servers. These skills include performing configuration and platform administration methodologies supported by Sun on the Sun Fire HES; be familiar with and use troubleshooting tools and techniques available within the Solaris Operating System (Solaris OS) relevant to the Sun Fire high-end servers.

Understand general enterprise server concepts Li>Configure a Sun Management Center (Sun MC) server and use Sun MC software to monitor the server
Troubleshoot server and network system software and hardware

Describe the architecture, functional goals, and advanced reliability, availability, and serviceability (RAS) features of the Sun Fire 15K/12K server
Identify system components by location, layout, and function
Perform configuration and platform administration methodologies supported by Sun on the Sun Fire high-end servers
Be familiar with and use troubleshooting tools and techniques available within the Solaris OS
Configure and manage the platform using System Management Services (SMS) utilities
Initialize and configure the Solaris OS on a domain
Define and edit nonvolatile random access memory (NVRAM) parameters
Perform flash programmable read-only memory (PROM) image updates
Create, manage, and delete multiple domains using hardware, system configuration, and available component lists (ACLs)
Use OpenBoot(TM) programmable read-only memory (PROM) commands to gather system information and interpret the results

Describe some of the advanced reliability, availability, and serviceability (RAS) features of the Sun Fire HES
Describe Capacity-on-Demand (COD)




  Module 2 - Exploring Sun Fire HES Architecture

Describe the Sun Fire HES architecture
Identify field-replaceable units (FRUs) by location and function
Power on and power off the Sun Fire HES




  Module 3 - Using the Sun Fire HES System Controller Networks and Software

Understand the management networks
Identify the SC SMS platform management features
Identify the SC's unique SMS startup scripts and their functions
Identify the SC's unique SMS daemons and their functions
Identify the Sun Fire HES SC's management software and applications
Configure SMS on the system controller




  Module 4 - Configuring the Sun Fire HES Platform

Verify platform hardware resources
Verify system environments
Configure an available component list (ACL) for a domain
Set the time-of-day (TOD) clock
