Learn the key product functions of IBM Tivoli Network Manager IP Edition version 3.7, including the integration with Netcool/OMNIbus, Root Cause Analysis calculation and network monitoring via the Network Manager Pollers. This course provides a basic overview of product components and their associated functionality. Students install and configure Tivoli Network Manager IP Edition, carrying out a full discovery of simulated networks containing various vendor specific devices. To further understand the intricacies of the discovery cycle, students customize discovery by changing the behavior of finders and agents. Basic keys stitchers are introduced (advanced stitcher configuration is covered in the Advanced training course, (TN331)). Students also learn how to obtain granular discovery data and monitor processes through the use of Object Query Language (OQL) query commands. Additional topics teach students to configure monitoring and how to suspend monitoring within a network. In order to extend functionality and build resilience, students will learn how to configure and maintain a Network Manager Failover Server pair into a full failover OMNIbus environment.

This introductory-level course is for pre-sales engineers, system integrators, Value Added Resellers (VARs) and system administrators of Tivoli Network Manager IP Edition version 3.7.

prerequisites

You should have the following knowledge/skills:

	Working knowledge of UNIX/Linux at the system administrator level. This includes proficiency with the "vi" editor
	Knowledge of network management, including SNMP and TCP/IP, routing, switching and network management systems
	Understand networking protocols including Open Shortest Path First (OSPF), Multiprotocol Label Switching (MPLS), and Border Gateway Protocol (BGP)
	Ability to determine the cause of a software problem, and work around or fix the problem
	Work with basic scripting techniques
	Completion of the Netcool/OMNIbus Administration and Configuration course (TN021) or (TN022) is mandatory if the student has never worked with Netcool/OMNIbus previously. Attendance in course , IBM Tivoli Netcool/Webtop 2.0 (TN041) is preferred.
