Tame Microsoft Project! is not your typical one-day Microsoft Project course. It contains all the features you need to develop and manage a schedule but only those features. This course makes Project easy to use by focusing on the features you need and hiding the features that make Project so frustrating.

Using a Project template that is pre-configured to the simplest settings.
Adding two new tabs to the Ribbon. One tab has a step-by-step process for planning the project. The second tab simplifies managing your schedule and creating reports.
Integrating project management tips into the course manual that explain the theory behind Microsoft Projects features.

Who Should Attend? People who need to create and manage a project schedule. That can include part-time teams working on internal initiatives, construction projects, and people who are new to project management and Microsoft Project!

Module 1: Introduction to Microsoft Project
This module explains how Microsoft Project reinforces project management best practices and provides an introduction to the User Interface (UI) and the custom Ribbon that is a key component in this course.

Lab 1: No Lab exercises for Module 1
After completing this module, students will be able to:
  • Describe how Project relates to the discipline of project management.
  • Navigate to the primary views available using the Ribbon.
  • Choose views that display task, resource, or assignment information.
  • Select tables within views to change the information that is available to see and edit.
  • Relate the features of Project to the 5 steps for building a plan in Project.

Module 2: A Quick and Easy Overview of Managing with Project
This module demonstrates the major steps of managing a project using Microsoft Project. Students will create a new project plan, establish a baseline, and track progress. This module provides a brief experience with many features of Project without delving into detailed explanations in order to provide students the an overall understanding the purpose of Project and how it is used.

Module 3: Setting up a Project
This module explains how to begin a new project using the Tame Template. The Tame Templet is pre-configured to make entering tasks easy and it includes custom views for updating a project once the work begins. Starting a new project also includes configuring the Project Calendar to reflect the work schedule of the team.

This module offers best practices for breaking a project into manageable tasks and describes the features in Project related to managing this list of tasks.

Module 7: Making Detailed Task Estimates
This module explains how to estimate the duration for a task and to assign the estimate and one or more resources to a task. Project uses three Task Types and each will be described, although Tame Microsoft Project! only recommends using the Fixed Duration task type.
