This one day hands on intensive course takes technology staff on a guided tour of the rapidly developing Serverless and FaaS space. Attendees will gain hands on experience with the most popular FaaS offering, AWS Lambda, but will also learn about Google Cloud Functions, Azure Functions and IBM OpenWhisk, along with the architectures they promote. The course also examines developing serverless models and interoperability initiatives from the Cloud Native Computing Foundation's serverless working group. Each module is followed by a hands on lab where attendees will work with AWS Lambda to create a simple serverless application. Upon completion, attendees will have a clear understanding of the state of the art in serverless computing as well as hands on experience with the most prevalent serverless platform.

Serverless Technology and Functions as a Service

  1. Serverless and FaaS Overview (eco system, cloud venders, open source, architectures)
  2. AWS Lambda Case Study (AWS Lambda operations, pricing, API Gateway, S3, Event integration)
  3. CNCF Serverless Working Group reference models (terminology, relation to PaaS, use cases, patterns, lifecycle)
  4. Serverless/FaaS in production (application integration, logging, monitoring, deployment)

When does class start/end?

Classes begin promptly at 9:00 am, and typically end at 5:00 pm.

Does the course schedule include a Lunchbreak?

Lunch is normally an hour long and begins at noon. Coffee, tea, hot chocolate and juice are available all day in the kitchen. Fruit, muffins and bagels are served each morning. There are numerous restaurants near each of our centers, and some popular ones are indicated on the Area Map in the Student Welcome Handbooks - these can be picked up in the lobby or requested from one of our ExitCertified staff.

great course. Matthew is a very experienced on the topic so he shared us lots of case studies which is very beneficial.

Overall good. But some of the lab instructions are a little out of date, which confused students.

This was a good concise course and all information was presented clearly and well spread out.

Course was well presented the supplied camera and head phones were plus in making the virtual course as real as it can get.

Course was great, labs very useful, great to have hands on experience with some of the SDKs.
